The Assistant Chief Engineer supports the Chief Engineer in managing the Engineering and Maintenance Department, ensuring all hotel facilities, equipment, and systems are in excellent working condition. This role includes supervising engineering staff, overseeing preventive and corrective maintenance, and ensuring compliance with safety and environmental regulations. The Assistant Chief Engineer plays a critical role in ensuring operational efficiency, guest satisfaction, and asset protection.
Operations & Maintenance
Assist in overseeing daily engineering operations, including electrical, mechanical, HVAC, plumbing, and general building maintenance.
Support in implementing preventive and corrective maintenance schedules to minimize downtime.
Monitor utility consumption (water, gas, electricity) and implement cost-saving initiatives.
Respond promptly to guest room and public area maintenance requests.
Team Management
Supervise, train, and schedule engineers, technicians, and maintenance staff.
Conduct daily briefings to assign tasks, communicate priorities, and enforce safety practices.
Provide coaching, performance feedback, and skills development for engineering associates.
Project Management
Assist in managing renovation, refurbishment, and capital improvement projects.
Liaise with external contractors and vendors to ensure quality work and compliance with standards.
Support in reviewing technical specifications, proposals, and contracts.
Safety & Compliance
Ensure all equipment and systems meet safety, health, and environmental regulations.
Conduct regular inspections of fire safety equipment, elevators, generators, and other critical systems.
Train staff on safety procedures, emergency protocols, and safe use of equipment.
Maintain proper documentation of inspections, licenses, and compliance records.
Inventory & Budget Control
Assist in managing departmental budgets, expenses, and cost-control measures.
Oversee inventory of tools, spare parts, and maintenance supplies.
Ensure cost-effective procurement and proper storage of engineering materials.
Coordination
Work closely with other departments to minimize disruptions during maintenance or projects.
Coordinate with Front Office and Housekeeping for guest room repairs and room readiness.
Provide technical support during special events or functions.
Required:
Minimum 5 years of engineering/maintenance experience in hotels, resorts, or large facilities.
Strong technical knowledge of electrical, mechanical, plumbing, HVAC, and building systems.
Leadership and supervisory skills with the ability to manage a diverse team.
Problem-solving ability and hands-on technical expertise.
Flexibility to work shifts, weekends, and on-call emergencies.
Preferred:
Degree/Diploma in Mechanical, Electrical, or Civil Engineering.
Certification in Fire Safety, OSHA, or related technical fields.
Previous experience in luxury hotels or high-rise buildings.
Knowledge of energy management and sustainability practices.
